More than a year has passed since I’ve written my last post. Concerts started slowly happening again and I’ve been part of a few since last December.
In a Christmas Concert together with the Monteverdi Project, I sang Agnus Dei together with Stanley Portelli and Lisa Baldacchino , a trio by Luigi Battiferri. This was held at the Church of the Jesuits in Valletta.
In January it was time for the Valletta Baroque Festival. In this festival I sang in Handel’s Messiah together with KorMalta at the prestigious St. John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta under the direction of Mro. Christian Curnyn.
A week later, in the same festival, I performed a Vincenzo Tozzi madrigal with an ensemble from the Monteverdi Project in a concert titled The Rediscovered Madrigals of the Mdina Archives. In the latter a number of pieces from the Mdina Cathedral archives where performed for the first time in a modern setting.
On the 21st March Early Music Day is celebrated. A concert in memory of Mgr. John Azzopardi, who was the curator of the Mdina Cathedral Museum, was held on the same day at the Mdina Cathedral in which madrigals from the same archives he curated were sung by the Monteverdi Project.
The last concert I’ve been part of was that with KorMalta, in which we performed Dietrich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri at Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta. We were accompanied by VIBE (Valletta International Baroque Ensemble) under the direction of Mro. Riccardo Bianchi. This oratorio is a cycle of seven cantatas, each about a part of the crucified body of Christ.
