Summer So Far

It’s been some time since I posted. After Le Nozze di Figaro was over, I started rehearsing for the next musical project, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. On the 9th May I was part of the Malta EU Presidency Choir, who together with the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir we sang this beautiful symphony with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.

In the beginning of July rehearsals for Patience commenced; an opera written by Gilbert & Sullivan. This will be my first opera role as General Murgatroyd! Vocal rehearsals progressed well, while staging rehearsals will commence after a short summer break. Patience performances will be at the Salesian Theatre on the 30th September and 1st October.

I have just attended the first 3 master classes with the renowned Marco Mencoboni, a harpsichord & organ player and conductor specialising in Baroque music, as part of The Monteverdi Project. These monthly master classes will lead to a concert on the 21st December.

The Year 2015

The year started off with rehearsals for the opera L’Elisir d’Amore held in March at the Manoel Theatre. In May I had the opportunity to perform two Mozart pieces at the President’s San Anton Palace in Festa Palazz. In June I did my Grade 5 Johann Strauss School Of Music classical voice exam, in which I got a Distinction.

The Year 2015

Summer was busy with rehearsals for two concerts; Strummin’ What A Feelin’, held at Sir Temi Zammit Hall in mid-October, and Animae Gospel Choir In Concert ’15, held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre at the end of the same month. In November I started rehearsals for next year’s opera Orphée et Eurydice and joined the TMYO (Teatru Manoel Youth Opera). In December I had the pleasure to perform a Maltese classic, Viva Malta, with the Strummin’ guitarists together with Mro. Joe Brown & The Drop-Out Band at the L-Istrina yearly event.

#AGC15 in Concert

A year a half of rehearsals has culminated to last weekend’s concerts at the Mediterranean Conference Centre; three concerts packed with emotions and satisfaction. Choir direction was in the able hands of Pamela Bezzina, who wrote all the choir arrangements and guided us throughout the journey to these concerts. Christian Borg, our manager and pianist, produced the concerts. We were accompanied on stage by a 7 piece band under the direction of the talented Kris Spiteri, who also wrote all the musical arrangements, and a 70-piece children’s choir whose angelic voices joined us in a few songs.

Strummin’ What A Feelin’

The 14th edition of Strummin’ is now over. This year it was my 4th time participating in this yearly event, in which I sang the popular Maltese tune “Viva Malta” originally by Freddie Portelli. All proceeds from this year’s concert are going towards the St. Jeanne Antide Foundation in aid of their SOAR (Surviving Abuse with Resilience) project. A summer of rehearsals for the guitarists, band, backing-vocalists and soloists culminated in two great nights (9th and 10th October) with very warm audiences. Surely another experience to cherish!

#AGC15 in Concert Rehearsals

The third Animae Gospel Choir national concert is happening soon … on the 30th & 31st of October, as well as a matinee on the 1st of November, at the Mediterranean Conference Centre! Rehearsals have been going on for over a year, and at the moment we’re brushing up our new concert repertoire that includes gospel classics and popular fan favourites!
